The Hamilton County Democratic Party calls on County Mayor Weston Wamp to make sacrifice for a family currently experiencing homelessness.
After staging a social media photo event with the children forced onto the street by his younger sister, DA Coty Wamp, County Mayor Weston Wamp refused to approve $50,000 to help those same families stay housed through this current cold weather period. The resolution was signed without County Mayor Wamp’s signature. “Our county commissioners, all of them, did the right thing and approved the funds unanimously. Their actions, as well as those of Mayor Tim Kelly and the Chattanooga City Council, will undoubtedly save the lives of Hamilton County residents”, said Rachel Campbell, Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party.
“Recently, Mayor Wamp spent over $70,000 of taxpayer dollars on a new Chevy Tahoe for his own use, without any debate or vote required by the County Commission. According to Chevy’s description of his car, ‘A luxurious cabin and state-of-the-art technology surround everyone inside. Generous second- and third-row legroom allow rear-seat passengers to stretch out and relax. Plus, there’s plenty of configurable cargo space in the back for long road trips.’ Since Mayor Wamp conducts county business during the day, we are asking him to allow a family of up to eight people to sleep in his taxpayer-funded vehicle at night. A Tahoe seats eight comfortably,” said Chair Campbell.
Chevy’s description of the Tahoe also says “Tahoe brings a backseat theater feel with available 12.6-inch diagonal LCD color touch-screens. And the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with an available 10.2-inch diagonal center screen offers available Google built-in and Wi-Fi® connection, taking tech to another level.”
“The tech package on Mayor Wamp’s vehicle could help children experiencing homelessness to catch up on schoolwork missed due to being forcibly evicted by our District Attorney Coty Wamp. This is the kind of innovative use we expect from our first millennial county mayor, who prides himself on thinking outside-the-box,” continued Chair Campbell.
The time for personal sacrifice is now. Mayor Wamp, will you loan your vehicle in the evening to help keep a local family warm and safe?
